Is it necessary to crate-train your puppy?

Whining could also indicate that your puppy needs to go outside to “go potty”. For this reason it could be helpful to bell-train your dog when they need to go out by tying a jingle bell to a string that hangs down near the door.

Simply touch their nose or paw to the bell every time you take them outside while house-training to associate the bell with going out.

With this method, you do have to pay attention if you hear a faint jingle so you can take them out.

Whining could also indicate that your puppy is tired or feeling frustrated, much like a grumpy child who just needs a nap!

Additionally, whining could indicate that your puppy is hurt or feeling sick. To determine what your puppy needs, watch their behavior and movements to figure out what “type” of whining it could be.

Be patient and work with your puppy so you can better understand their needs and wants when they whine.

You’ll obviously want to have your new puppy with you all the time when you get them home, so it’s vital to have a safe place for your puppy to go when you can’t supervise them.

And if you want your dog to sleep in your bed with you, buying a cage gives you somewhere to put your puppy while you are distracted, need to go to the supermarket, or need to do something without a little bundle of fur running underfoot.

Puppies sleep the bulk of the day, so it is important to have a cosy, healthy place for them to sleep and rest.

You won’t have to think about your dog picking up dangerous or expensive things in the home, such as chairs or electrical cables, if you crate-train them.

If you live in a multi-level house, keeping your dog in a safe, enclosed area means that they do not slip down stairs or roam where they should not.
